I've had problems with mine not shutting down right lately. This HAS to be better than pushing the red-flashing button on my power strip!!!

Not all PCs will shut down by simply depressing the power button. Pressing the power button on mine puts the PC in sleep mode.

On any PC (or at least most) you can hold the power button for 5 seconds and it will turn off. This is the same result you described only faster. Very convenient when your PC locks up or as mentioned earlier, hardware installs.

surely it will be more faster if you press the following:

window key + u + enter

that's all.

Nice trick…Never knew about this

i use hibernation (WIN+U+H) when i am in hurry…it takes less than five seconds and depends upon the programs running in the background

Heh. Looks like everyone is missing your point. Sometimes you just want to drop Windows quickly so that you get started on a hardware job or get it starting up again.

And for the less careful amongst you, try removing the power cord from its connection at your pc or electrical outlet. This is guaranteed to take less than 1 second to completely shut down windows.

Back in the real world why not just use hibernate, shutting down your pc is not something that makes it last longer or run better in the long run.
