Simplest Trick To Shut Down Windows In Under 5 Seconds

7

Apr

If you work on windows , you know that shutting it down can be really a hassle and time taking , especially when a lot of programs are running . Most of us tend to avoid shut down due to this reason but we know that shut down is always safer and also considered good for the pc .

There are a lot of shut down tricks and tools available , which help you to achieve a smooth and fast shut down of windows without negatively affecting your pc . However this trick , which was suggested to me by a friend , is probably the simplest one and also the fastest way to shut down your pc .

Here are the steps :-

1: Press Ctrl+Alt+Delete to go to the Task Manager .

2: Click on Shut Down on the Top .

3: Highlight ‘ Turn Off ‘ and while holding down the Ctrl key , click on it .

And thats it ! Just count 1 , 2 , 3…5 and there you go…your pc is off !

I have tried this trick on my XP system and it has worked everytime and hasn’t negatively affected my pc . I haven’t tried this on any other version of Windows but I think it’ll work .

However I advise you to use this trick only when you are in a rush and you need a speedy shut down of your pc .

    Surely you can just press Windows Key -> U -> U ?

    I can’t time it but it’s fast, mouse free and almost rhythmic!

    If you have an ATX cabinet, then just by pressing the Power Button will activate the windows shut down process.

    There are options for this under
    Control Panel->Power Options->Advanced
    This is for Xp.

    But, i really didn’t get the point of your post.

    How difficult is it to do what Andy said?

    Andy and Dushyant- Both of you didn’t get the point here. Shutting it down in that way will take the normal shutdown time. However doing it in this way guarantees that it will turn off in 5 secs because we are skipping the normal windows shutdown process. For example my system usually could take longer if I do it in the normal way rather than this way.

    And for the less careful amongst you, try removing the power cord from its connection at your pc or electrical outlet. This is guaranteed to take less than 1 second to completely shut down windows.

    Back in the real world why not just use hibernate, shutting down your pc is not something that makes it last longer or run better in the long run.

    @rvwinkle Power cuts are prominent in India, so its always safe to shut down your computer when you are not using it.

    Heh. Looks like everyone is missing your point. Sometimes you just want to drop Windows quickly so that you get started on a hardware job or get it starting up again.
    Great tip & one that I did not know about. Well done.

    i use hibernation (WIN+U+H) when i am in hurry…it takes less than five seconds and depends upon the programs running in the background

    But… if it skips the shutdown process, how is it any better than just hitting the power button?

    surely it will be more faster if you press the following:
    window key + u + enter
    that’s all.
    anyway thanks for your useful tricks.

  • Even faster...

    Not all PCs will shut down by simply depressing the power button. Pressing the power button on mine puts the PC in sleep mode.

    On any PC (or at least most) you can hold the power button for 5 seconds and it will turn off. This is the same result you described only faster. ;) Very convenient when your PC locks up or as mentioned earlier, hardware installs.
