Become A Gmail Productivity Master With GTD Inbox

12

May

For those who don’t know, I am a big fan of Gmail and am always searching for tools, tips and tricks to further optimize it and enhance its functions.

In my quest for gmail productivity tools, I came across GTD Inbox, an awesome firefox addon which helps you make your gmail as your ultimate task manager and helps you keep a clean inbox without a hassle. ‘ GTD ‘ means getting things done and thats what it aims to do with your gmail.

Let me describe what it does. It primarily aims at giving structure and meaning to the chaos of your inbox. It considers each email as a task and lets you manage it with a few clicks. Hence it primarily helps you to reorganize your emails according to your priorities.

Important functions of GTD Inbox :-

1: It creates a small box of labels named ‘ Statuses ‘ and places it just above your previous labels, which are now grouped under the name ” Misc “. If you look at these new labels, they are meant to organize your emails (tasks) depending upon your preferences and when you want to deal with them.

2: You will also find a small GTD mark at the end of each email subject line, in your inbox. If you double click it, it directly archives the email labeling it as a ‘ Finished ‘ task and if you double right click it , it sends the email to trash. Hence if you see an email which needs no further action but you would like to keep it, then you can consider it as a finished task and just double click on the GTD mark.

3: It adds a new drop down menu named GTD which basically helps you see all those archived emails/ tasks grouped under various actions and helps you to deal with them at one go.

4: GTD Inbox enables right click on emails. Hence you can right click an email and perform actions which include labeling it or deleting it. You can also preview the message before opening it.

5: It also enables pre-labeling of a message while you compose it and also provides a new Compose Personal link which lets you send yourself an email as a task easily.

Overall GTD Inbox looks like a very good tool and worth a try. It may not particularly useful for those who are addicted to using gmail with keyboard shortcuts but otherwise it could be a pretty useful addition to your Gmail.

For implementing GTD you might try out this web-based application:

    Gtdagenda

You can use it to manage your goals, projects and tasks, set next actions and contexts, use checklists, schedules and a calendar.
A mobile version is available too.

As with the last update, now Gtdagenda has full Someday/Maybe functionality, you can easily move your tasks and projects between “Active”, “Someday/Maybe” and “Archive”. This will clear your mind, and will boost your productivity.

    Hope you like it.
