Digg Effect And A Pathetic Service From Media Temple

12

Apr

Update: Mediatemple’s VP of Customer Service has taken up this matter personally and given me appropriate credit. Hence for now I will stay on with them and see how things go on. And other issues have been fixed.

Hi, as most of you might be aware that our previous post on firefox shortcuts got dugg and hit the front page. Before starting the blog I had this in mind and hence I chose Media Temple Grid Service as my host, because thats what a lot of bloggers recommended me.

But I was very disappointed because they couldn’t stand the test of time. The blog was down for 6 hours and after checking and resolving things at their end , they told me that it could be a problem with my plugins. Although I should have checked my plugins earlier but I didn’t know if suddenly something could go bad there because it was working fine. And I don’t know what took them so long to tell that to me. The result: I have lost precious number of visitors and subscribers.

Currently I am still checking my plugins and also certain aspects of the design. As you can see, right now the footer of this blog is in a terrible condition. I am working on it and I hope everything would be back and up and running soon. Please bear with us till then. And if you face any other issues, do let us know.

Thanks,

Abhijeet

Hehe, same old, ain’t it? I’d warned you several times to be wary of mt’s gs - it sucks, plain and simple.

Their reputation was built on better plans - dv, nitro etc.

Slicehost is simply incredible, and at $20 per month, the same price. PSDTuts and Zenhabits, whom combined must have hit digg over 100 times, is on Slicehost.

@Mani- Ya even I thought that MT was good. But this experience certainly was not worth it.

@Randy and rkag- Thanks. Stay tuned for more good posts.

@Sumesh- You did warn me but a lot of other experienced bloggers suggested me MT. Never mind. Probably my bad day (or good day…don’t know )

It’s so annoying when your web host mess you around. I was with LunarPages for a while and they have the worst customer service I’ve seen.

They sent us an email saying we were taking up too much bandwidth even though we had taken our site off their servers for over a month. I feel your pain…so annoying when your site is down when you hit the Digg front page.

I guess no shared hosting is best, each one has their own short comings. Best would be VPS.
