Using Different Firefox Profiles For Various Purposes

in Firefox

Martin at ghacks wrote an interesting post on how he uses a different Firefox profile for logging in to his netbanking and other secured accounts. He also mentioned about some add-ons which he uses in that particular profile.

Using different firefox profiles can be useful and you could do it for various purposes. For example, recently there was a problem in my Firefox and even after removing all the add ons, I couldn’t resolve it. So then, instead of uninstalling and reinstalling Firefox ( which is time consuming ), I just went ahead and created a fresh profile and started working in that.

Hence, unless there is an issue with the core Firefox files, you can always create another profile and use it. And you can also have a different profile for a different purpose, like for going to certain sites which you don’t want to appear in the history of your main Firefox profile.

Here’s how you can create another Firefox profile:-

1: Close Firefox

2: Go to run and type - > firefox.exe -P

firefox-profile

3: You get the profile manager window and there you can easily create another profile and later switch between profiles.

firefox-profile-manager

So that was how you can create and use different firefox profiles. Hope that helped.

This is a great feature of firefox which many users are unaware of.

I use two different profiles:
One with my passwords, bookmarks, addons, themes

and another one for guests and for screencasting.

Interesting take on profiles. I can see myself using this one too - one for work and one for play.
