I discovered a new firefox trick today, which I thought will be good to share. Its very simple and I don’t know if its quite common too.
The trick is that you can drag and drop tabs and arrange them in your order of preference. Sounds cool, isn’t it?
Now I would love to know how many of you knew this and how many discovered it through this post. Wanna find out if it was too common

I knew this on the very first day of using Firefox.
Yes, I know this trick
It’s been there since the past several versions of Firefox. Can be extremely useful when you have ten tabs or more open.
Though, in these situations I prefer opening a separate window for the set of urls.

It appears that this was a pretty common trick. But never mind. I have mentioned lot of uncommon things before too.
Once you have your “Bookmarks Toolbar” with folders for all your favorite links - I have my folders setup for different subjects… dragging and dropping the URL from the address bar to folder is even easier. If you hold the address over the folder you want to drop the URL into… the folder expands and you can drop the address where you want it inside that folder.

I can’t believe people didn’t know this!
Ctrl-Drag duplicates a tab.
Dragging reorders a tab.
Dragging a link or bookmark to a blank space in the tab bar opens it in a new window.
Dargging a link or bookmark to an existing tab opens that page in that tab.
Middle-clicking a tab closes it.
Middle-clicking a link or bookmark (or menu item, such as ‘View Image’) opens it in a new tab.
Ctrl-Tab flicks left-to-right between tabs.
Ctrl-Shift-Tab flicks right-to-left between tabs.
Also, if you like the fluidity of tabs in Firefox and you wish you could do similar stuff with the taskbar (reorder by dragging, middle-click to close, for both programs and task tray icons), check out Taksbar Shuffle:

Hey Abhijeet ,i’m a new subscriber to your blog, find its kinda pretty handy and cool, love the “readitlater” and “hyperwords” you introduced me to, but ya i knew bout that tab thing for ages! Can’t believe you didn’t know about it until now, its a pretty basic trick compared to your other tips
I used to use Tab Mix extension to get this feature. Now firefox supports this natively.

@Albert My friend it happens. I am no genius and some tips may have skipped my eyes.
Like previously when I wrote about Incredible Firefox Keyboard shortcuts on this blog, which also hit the Digg front page, people were amazed to find those shortcuts. Although I knew them for ages.
Hence there will be always somethings which you will know and others won’t and vice versa. And thats where blogging comes into picture. It allows us to share what we know. This was a pretty simple and common trick and I agree I discovered it late.
But as the saying goes- ” Its never too late” ..and in the blogging world- “Its never too late to share !”
I knew this trick.I accidentally learned it one day
Do you know this one. If you go to Firefox > File > New Tab, it opens a new tab…. haha, just messing with you. I already knew your trick but please keep posting
