Understanding the Importance Of Link Posts - Part 2 ( Adding Value )

9

Apr

In my previous post , I outlined the importance of link posts for both bloggers and blog readers. However a blogger needs to add value to his link post so that his readers tend to give it some time and can gain something out of it.

Here is how I believe that bloggers can add value to their link posts :

1: Make the post title attractive

This the basic rule or rather one of the important steps towards making a post attractive and appealing to your readers. Instead of a title like ‘ Links ‘ or ‘ Links for Today ‘ , it is better to have more appealing titles like ‘ Best of Blogosphere ‘ or Evergreen Links, which could gain the reader’s attention.

2: Give a short description of links

You can always write 2-3 lines about the links to let the reader know why clicking on that link should not be a waste of time.

3: Links on a single topic

I haven’t found many bloggers trying this out but a link post centered around a particular product or subject like SEO, Firefox or anything like that could be a nice way to add value to the post. However the topic which you choose should depend on what kind of topics your blog covers and what your readers like to read in your blog. So there you need to think and decide.

4: Arrange the links neatly

You will agree that no matter how much work you do to add value to a link post, it will still be a big time saver for you. So why not give it some more time and make sure that the post doesn’t look cluttered and there is enough space and line breaks between two links.

5: Check the Links

This sounds stupid but its very important. I have seen that many times the blogger had to update the post later either because he forgot to put the link or the links were broken and were not directing where they should be. So make sure you check the links before and after publishing the post.

6: Don’t do it too often

Last but not the least, I recommend you to do a link post not more than once or twice a week. If you are doing it twice a week then keep the number of links low. Its only then most of your readers will give value to these posts.

So that was the second and final part of this series about link posts. Hope you have liked it.

The title is the life of a blog post. Once you have good and catchy titles, half the job is done.

Next comes references and images. If you give references to whatever you post more readers are coming your way.

Good tips to share and expose the blogs that you read to your readers too as this will add to the value derived from your own blog.
